A new development over at Twitter brings new information behind alleged plans to create a new generative AI, with Elon Musk purchasing over 10,000 GPUs for the company's latest project. Reports claimed that this new information came from insiders familiar with the project, one that will go against a company Mr. Tweet previously co-founded, OpenAI.

Allegedly, the goal of this upcoming development from the social media company is to create its version of the famous GPT language model to create its AI tech.

Business Insider first reported that Chief Tweet has recently purchased a significant number of graphics cards, with as much as 10,000 units, to power his new project towards creating a new AI. This will usher in a new era for Twitter, as despite the company previously using artificial intelligence for the likes of its feed and content moderation, it may allegedly see a new power to help with its operations.

The details came from people familiar with the project who remains anonymous, claiming that Musk is looking to create a new large language model (LLM) that will power its future tech.

Previously, The Information claimed that Musk has appointed AI researchers to a new AI lab under the social media company which aims to compete with the world-famous ChatGPT.

Creating a GPT Competitor with Former AI Heads

The latest report centers on a GPT competitor which folks at Twitter are making, and Musk has already tapped into the likes of DeepMind's researchers, Igor Babuschkin and Manuel Kroiss. With this development, Musk is not only competing with the GPT language model but also a company he previously backed and co-founded, OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT.

Elon Musk and Artificial Intelligence

Elon Musk is not a hater of AI, and despite the controversial open letter which he signed alongside tech executives like Steve Wozniak that calls for a pause over its development, he still welcomed it before.

However, since his early days when co-founding OpenAI in 2015, which he left in 2018 over some fiasco, he has not gone back to support the now significant company.

Still, he previously criticized OpenAI for being acquired by a Big Tech company in 2020, with Microsoft stepping in as one of its significant partners in its development. The tech billionaire then went on to claim that the "executive license" from this partnership is defeating the purpose of AI democracy.

When ChatGPT grew massive, there were claims from the multi-tech CEO that AI is humanity's biggest threat and warns about the implications that it brings.

Fast forward to today, Musk still shows that he is a big fan of technology, including artificial intelligence which is a significant development of today's age, and one which he will try to recreate as per the reports. Not only that, he already has the means to do so, with the new GPUs over at Twitter and his alleged partnership with former DeepMind founders, for a new LLM to compete with the GPT series.
