The Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition series is continuing its nostalgic trend by announcing the Return of Rome DLC, a reimagined version of the original Age of Empires Rise of Rome expansion that will be available on PC and consoles on 16th May.

'Return of Rome' DLC - Reintroducing 16 Civilizations to the Franchise 

The eagerly anticipated Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition Return of Rome DLC is set to launch later this month, and for fans of the game, it's a dream come true. Including all 16 civilizations from the original Age of Empires and the Rise of Rome, this mode brings nostalgia to the game. 

According to the story by Euro Gamer, this new version breathes fresh life into the franchise with a new way to play, introducing the 'D3' game mode, which bans walls and towers, reduces rush tactics, and means players can only fight with a single unit until they reach the Bronze Age.

Three new campaigns - Sargon of Akkad, Pyrrhus of Epirus, and Trajan - offer unique stories for players to explore. For those wanting to experience a part of the game's history, the new Rise of Rome mode will more than satisfy them. Fans can learn more about the DLC from the official YouTube teaser.

It offers access to the previously mentioned civilizations and a brand-new one, too - the Lac Viet. Microsoft has included this in honor of the mode's popularity in Vietnam. Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition is set to be enjoyed by a wide audience when the new Rise of Rome mode launches. 

Explore Three New Campaigns and Encounter the Lac Viet Civilization 

It may be seen as a call back to the original. Still, it also presents a series of new and exciting challenges to experienced veterans and newcomers to the franchise alike. This feature is eagerly anticipated and will allow players to revisit a previously loved version of the game and experience a fresh new challenge.

Joining them is one brand new civilization, the Lac Viet, added to the game to recognize the expansion's popularity in Vietnam. Three new campaigns have also been included, with missions and stories centering around Sargon of Akkad (Sumerians), Pyrrhus of Epirus (Macedonians), and Trajan (Romans).

Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition's Return of Rome DLC looks set to be a great addition to the series, bringing a host of classic civilizations back to the game while introducing a few new ideas to keep a fresh experience. The DLC costs £8.49 and is coming to Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC on 16th May.
