13 reports of Peloton bike-related injuries include bruises, lacerations, and fractured wrists.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced on Thursday, May 11 that millions of Peloton-made bikes for exercises are subject to recall over safety concerns.

According to a report by NBC News, many people have complained that the seat post of the bikes are too fragile which suggest that they could easily injure the user.

The injury hazards are cited in 35 reports, according to Peloton. Some of the injuries that some users got include bruises and fractured wrists, according to CPSC.

"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled exercise bikes and contact Peloton for a free repair. Peloton is offering consumers a free seat post that can be self-installed," the advisory said.

Peloton Bike Model Affected by the Recall

As per TechCrunch, the exercise bike which was subjected to the recall is the Peloton Bikes Model PL01. The particular model was sold in the United States somewhere between January 2018 and May 2023. However, it was manufactured in Taiwan.

This is not the first time that Peloton faced a major recall. Back in 2022, the company recalled 125,000 units of Tread and Tread+ treadmills after they resulted in a child's death.

At first, Peloton treated CPSC's findings to be misleading, but it quickly agreed to the decision when a series of "high-profile" cases came out of the blue.

It's indeed disheartening to see recalls everywhere. Peloton, for instance, has heavily felt the impact of the decision since the post-pandemic period.

According to Peloton, the Tread+ recalls resulted in $165 million in losses. The $50 million is for the full refunds while the $150 million is for the deliveries of all affected products.

Additionally, the company was also slapped with a $19 million fine after it failed to report the hazards that the treadmills posed, according to CPSC.

Peloton is Launching Tiered Membership For App Subscriptions

In another report by The Verge, Peloton CEO Barry McCarthy has announced that the firm will relaunch its brand in late May. This is to inform its customers that there are so many things to explore in the company.

Interestingly, the Peloton app will focus on rolling out a new tiered subscription for apps. At the time, the pricing for the service is not yet identified, but most likely it will vary depending on the content variances.

For the past years, Peloton has faced a lot of controversies including multiple recalls. It's reasonable why the company wants to launch a revamped subscription to attract more users who once leave the platform for good.
