Amazon Games and Embracer Group's Middle-earth Enterprises have announced a new, upcoming MMO based on The Lord of the Rings. Taking place within J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth world and featuring stories from both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings book trilogy, this all-new MMO is being developed by Amazon Games Orange County, the team behind New World. 

Team at Amazon Games Confident in Ability to Produce High-Quality MMO 

According to the story by IGN, the game will be released on both PC and consoles and has no official title or release window yet. 

The new MMROPG is a completely separate project from the now-canceled Lord of the Rings MMO from Amazon, and according to Christoph Hartmann, Amazon Games Vice President, it won't be using any materials from the canceled game. 

The team at Amazon Games is confident in their ability to produce a high-quality MMO, and Hartmann and Lee Guinchard, CEO of Middle-earth Enterprises' operative group Freemode, both noted that they are taking every care to deliver an MMO that will do justice to the expansive Middle-earth universe and delight players around the world. 

A Battle Between The New and The Old: 'The Lord of the Rings Online' vs The Yet-To-Be-Named MMO 

The yet-to-be-named MMO will be competition for The Lord of the Rings Online, which has been around for 16 years, despite the passing of time, as also explained further in an article by The Verge. 

With the new and the old games based in the same world, it only strengthens the appeal for Lord of the Rings gamers and fans, bringing forth the full story of Tolkien's universe.
