Five Nights at Freddy's First Teaser Trailer

Universal and Blumhouse just released the first teaser trailer for the long-awaited film adaption of Five Nights at Freddy's. According to a report from The Verge, the film has a similar premise as the first game as the trailer features security on duty for a Chuck E. Cheese-like restaurant called Freddy Fazbear's Pizza that features creepy animatronic animals.

In the game created by Scott Cawthon, players are usually tasked with surviving the onslaught of the characters inside the haunted restaurants using security cameras, lights, and doors to for users to survey the area. Mike, the main character, soon discovers that the family fun center contains animatronic performers that become murderous after nightfall.

The film will be out in theaters on October 27th and would debut on the streaming service Peacock on the same of its theatrical release. Blumhouse Productions replicated this day-and-date release strategy from its previous releases, like Halloween Kils and Halloween Ends.

Mashable reported that the cast includes Josh Hutcherson as Mike and Matthew Lillard as William Afton who are both considered notable characters of the game. It also includes Elizabeth Lail, Kat Conner Sterlin, Piper Rubio, and Mary Stuart Masterson. The animatronics cast was created by Jim Henson's Creature Shop and the film will be directed by Emma Tammi.

Film Delays

The game franchise was first released in 2014 and quickly rocketed to massive popularity. However, Kotaku reported that the movie has been a long time coming as it was planned for a big-screen adaptation all the way back in 2015 when Warner Bros. was still interested in making it.

It was previously connected with Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment (Run All Night, The Ring, The Grudge), along with Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions (Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Vampire Hunter). The project died two years later after the announcement.

Series Creator Scott Cawthorn stated on Stream in February 2017 that the movie was met with several delays and roadblocks after being involved in problems within the movie industry as a whole. The movie went back from square one and decided to scrap the planned ideas with the previous team.

He added, "It's bad because the movie is in its early stages again but it's good because I want to make sure that the right movie gets made, and things are on track right now for that to happen."
