Generative AI in the Music Industry

The introduction of generative AI in the music industry has raised concerns about copyright and originality, as AI models can easily mimic singer's voices. This is particularly true with the recent news of The Beatles being reunited by AI with artificially generated collaborations.

Jeronimo, CEO of Deezer, emphasized the importance of prioritizing quality and supporting genuine artists despite the vast number of new tracks uploaded daily. He stated Deezer's responsibility as a streaming platform is to create a fair and transparent environment for music consumption.

"Our goal is to weed out illegal and fraudulent content, increase transparency, and develop a new remuneration system where professional artists are rewarded for creating valuable content," Jeronimo said in a press release statement.

"This is why we have embraced the discussion around a new artist centric model, and we are now also developing tools to detect AI-generated content."

The primary objective is to detect AI-generated content on the platform. Deezer plans to implement a system for tagging music created by generative AI, initially focusing on songs that use synthetic voices imitating existing artists.

These tags will inform artists, labels, and users about the authenticity of the content, reduce fraudulent activities, and facilitate the development of a remuneration model that recognizes different types of music creation.

Jeronimo highlights the potential of AI in generating remarkable content but emphasizes the need for responsible implementation.

Radar Technology

Learning from the mistakes made by social media giants when dealing with fake news, Deezer aims to establish responsible practices from the beginning of the AI revolution. Jeronimo emphasizes the importance of protecting the interests of artists and fans alike.

To achieve its goals, Deezer will leverage its expertise in Audio AI and content identification, drawing on years of research.

Their proprietary " Radar " technology will play a significant role in the toolset. "Radar" can scan extensive music catalogs, even identifying songs amidst signal distortions or tempo changes.

It serves as the foundation for Deezer's current fraud detection efforts. Additionally, "Radar" is one of the unique solutions offered by Deezer to external parties as part of its Tech Services proposition.

Deezer's efforts to identify and potentially delete deepfake AI songs demonstrate their commitment to maintaining the integrity of the music streaming landscape.

By differentiating between genuine and AI-generated content, Deezer aims to create an environment that supports artists, provides accurate information to users, and ensures a fair remuneration system for music creators.
