Meta has announced its updated Accounts policy for families, and it included eligibility for younger children to use its Quest VR headsets.

The social media company is now allowing at least 10-year-old children to use its VR instead of its previous requirement of 13 years of age or older.

However, Meta requires parental consent before creating an account for young kids to set up the parameters such as which apps to access, time limits, and more.

Meta Allows 10-Year-Old Children to Use its Quest VR Headsets

In a blog post on Friday, Meta updated its Meta Accounts policy, centering on giving eligibility to children ages 10 to 12 for using the Quest 2 and 3 headsets from its lineup.

The company said it is giving families more ways to enjoy the Quest devices as they give the younger audience access to the device and its apps.

In this new experience, Meta will allow children ages 10 to 12 to gain access to Quest's platform, leveraging the educational apps and experiences available on the VR platform.

The company noted that for those who want to take part and learn more about this sharing account for their young ones, the family center tab on the Account settings would give parents a more extensive scope of what they offer.

Meta Quest for Children: Requires Parental Consent

One of the most important requirements for children to use the Quest VR headsets is parental consent, and this can be done with the shared family account that the legal guardian would set up for the kids.

Meta said it would also ask for data from the kids' accounts and use it to suggest age-appropriate content but would not bring ads for children's usage.

Certain apps may be blocked for download or access to control the preteen's usage as directed under the shared Meta Account.

Moreover, parents would have control over their kid's information and may delete their account and all associated data linked to it whenever they want.

The Quest VR headsets' sales are still up. Meta released two subsequent devices in less than a year, and last October, the company launched the Quest Pro but already talked about the next-generation Quest headset

Earlier this June, the company brought a surprise drop on its latest hardware, the Meta Quest 3, and this is the first mixed-reality device on the lineup that incorporates XR to the device.

The arrival of AR and VR to one wearable is a first for the Meta Quest, offering a unique experience to future users by bringing the best of digital realities.

Adolescents will now have the chance to take the VR stage for themselves, with apps like Roblox, Dino Encounters, and more for the younger audience.

However, parental consent is needed to give children access via the Meta Accounts when signing up, with data and information control given to the legal guardians of the user.
