Mexican Twitch streamer Samy "Rivers" Rivera has gained a reputation for attracting unfortunate events wherever she goes.

Despite this, her online presence continues to thrive, making her one of Mexico's most popular streaming stars. Known as "la patrona" by her fans, Rivera engages her audience with a variety of activities, from playing video games like Rust and crafting to cooking and watching soccer.

The content creator is now preparing to face her co-streamer Marina Rivers for the upcoming La Velada del Año on July 1.

Climbing Twitch Streaming Charts

Rivera's sudden popularity in streaming only started just nearly three years amid the COVID-19 pandemic. To her surprise, her meteoric rise in the scene even surpassed other more known streamers.

According to Gizmodo, the Mexican content creator has more than 8.88 million hours watched during her live sessions. Stream Charts says that she's currently the second-most popular female streamer across several platforms.

One of the factors contributing to Rivera's online popularity is her involvement in unique events, such as the upcoming La Velada del Año III (The Night of the Year III).

Organized by renowned Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos, this event will feature streamer vs. streamer boxing matches and was the most-viewed event on Twitch last year. Rivera is set to fight against Spanish TikToker Marina Rivers (La Rivers) in one of the scheduled matches.

What's more, the streamer-versus-streamer boxing match will be broadcasted in English for the first time.

Why Rivera Remains a Fan-Favorite on Twitch?

Rivera's passion for soccer also resonates with her audience. She actively participates in Gerard Piqué's Kings League and Queens League, virtual indoor soccer competitions specially designed for streaming on Twitch.

Leading both the male and female teams named "PIO FC," Rivera fervently supports her squads during weekend game streams. However, her presence sometimes leads to fans attributing their losses to her, playfully blaming her for jinxing the teams.

Jody Serrano of Gizmodo shares a similar setback that Rivera experienced and that is missing her train from Valencia to Barcelona after going to the wrong station. This parallel experience creates a connection between the author and Rivera, emphasizing Rivera's reputation for attracting misfortune.

According to her, she managed to catch the next train and arrived in time to witness Rivera's team playing at the Cupra Arena, where Piqué's tournament is held. She later asked Rivera for an interview during her training.

During the interview, conducted in dim lighting outside the stadium, Rivera discusses her decision to participate in the upcoming Velada event, highlighting its unique aspects. She also emphasizes the crucial role her Twitch community plays in her life and expresses her pride in her personal growth and achievements as a streamer.

"I've proven to myself that if I put my mind to something, I can do it. I can be disciplined, and I can do things the way they're meant to be done, even if at first I thought that I wasn't going to be able to," Rivera said when asked what Velada meant for her.
