China's New Thorium Reactor Marks Milestone for Alternative Energy

China has achieved a significant milestone in pursuing advanced nuclear technologies by launching its first thorium reactor last week.

The two-megawatt liquid-fueled thorium molten salt reactor (MSR), located in Wuwei, Gansu province, is operated by the Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. 

The reactor represents a significant step forward in China's nuclear energy sector. It recently received an operational permit from China's National Nuclear Safety Administration for testing the reactor's operations over the next decade.

According to SCMP, thorium reactors offer many advantages over traditional uranium reactors. They use liquid fuels, typically molten salts, as both fuel and coolant. 

One of the key benefits is increased safety, as the liquid fuel's properties reduce the risk of overheating and meltdown. Thorium reactors also produce reduced waste and demonstrate improved fuel efficiency, maximizing the use of available resources.

Twitter to Pay its Creators From the Ads Appearing on their Threads

Twitter has launched an ad-sharing program for its content creators. Under the creator ads revenue sharing program, select content creators on the social media platform will now be able to get a share of the revenue earned from ads that appear in their reply threads. 

Twitter will now pay these influencers a share in ad revenue. The social media company said this is part of its effort to help people earn a living directly on Twitter. 

Creators were initially promised a chance to earn money from the ads they see on their reply threads, as Twitter brings more ads on the platform. So instead of being annoyed that there are unrelated ads to their threads, they get paid for it and earn a percentage from the platform.

In February, Twitter owner Elon Musk revealed that Twitter subscriptions would help maximize the creator monetization opportunities on the platform, rewarding influencers with more earnings on the premium subscription program. However, it is still unclear how Twitter calculates its payouts to creators or splits the revenue it shares with eligible users.

To be eligible for the ads revenue sharing program, users must subscribe to Twitter Blue and have earned more than 5 million tweet impressions each month for the last three months. Based on its content monetization standards, sexual content cannot be monetized.

Apple's MacOS Is Now the 2nd-Most Used OS in the World

Apple's macOS is now the world's second most used operating system, beating the previous placeholders and going ahead of its competitors. 

Apple's computer OS already surpassed two known systems in the world, Linux and the chromeOS, when it comes to adoption rate. 

Apple's macOS features a 21.68 percent adoption rate, a notable number as per Apple Insider's report, with December 2022 being its peak adoption, skyrocketing to 22 percent. 

The company experienced this massive adoption rate despite not releasing new Mac computers with upgraded chips last December. However, it did so shortly after with the M2 Pro and M2 Ultra releases paired with the MacBook Pro.
