After its significant presence on the West Coast, Cruise is now expanding its efforts towards the eastern part of the country, with the company revealing its next city destination to be Miami. General Motors' Cruise is soon beginning its first phase of testing in the new city which would have its autonomous fleet surveying the area for the time being.

The pilot program will start with the initial rides and tests, offering a different experience to the people of Miami, FL while collecting as much data in the process.

Cruise waved its emoji hands on the tropical climates and wild experiences in Miami, as the company announced that it is the next city that would see an autonomous car service riding around its streets. The pilot program would begin this Friday, July 21, and would have its presence seen and felt in the busy streets of the Magic City.

GM's Cruise claimed that it would be in "Phase 1" of its pilot program in the city, which means that it would initially collect data to familiarize its fleet with the actual road conditions in the area. It would gather additional information on the streets of Miami as part of its process that would soon transition to offering autonomous ride-hailing to its citizens.

Cruise's Phase 1 to Map Out and Collect Data on Miami

The company will soon map out the vibrant city of Miami as part of its tests, and this, in turn, would help expedite the process of its future operations in the area. According to Cruise, this is part of its mission to bring its driverless vehicles to the city and promote road safety, all while learning more about the area that will expand its services to the east coast.

General Motors' Cruise Autonomous Service

San Fransisco was one of the most iconic places in the present as it was the initial testing grounds of two autonomous driving services in the country, Cruise and Waymo. From their early shenanigans and issues in their pilot program, General Motors' Cruise and Alphabet's Waymo have evolved to reinforce self-driving passenger car services in the area.

Of course, both companies did not stop there.

Cruise had made its way to Texas, piloting its operations in two iconic cities of the state, Houston and Dallas, after its entry in the state's capital, Austin. Before this expansion, Cruise only operated in Phoenix, Arizona, and its initial offers were in San Fransisco, CA, before it began its massive move to Texas' different cities.

After mainly paying attention to the western part of the United States, GM is now looking to bring Cruise to farther places, particularly in the eastern coast's Miami, Florida. For now, Cruise is on a pilot program that would include safety drivers in testing its capabilities, collecting sufficient safety data, and being ready for what the future holds for the company.
