Look, we're not going to sugar coat this.

The Matrix was a work of cinematic genius. A modern classic that influenced movies and storytellers for an entire generation. But the Wachowskis' track record since that movie has been wildly uneven. No one seemed to like Speed Racer except maybe elementary age boys. Cloud Atlas generated some fandom, but it was a commercial flop. V for Vendetta was quite good, but the Wachowskis only wrote it; they didn't direct it.

Clearly, these two need to recapture the glory days. Jupiter Ascending seems custom-tailored to return the Andy and Lana back to the science fiction territory that was once so good to them. We all want to see another great movie from the Wachowskis, but this one's not looking like it.

Jupiter Ascending is a wild, sweeping sci-fi epic that stretches from Earth to far-flung alien worlds, and looking at these new photos just released today, it looks... well... "cheesy" is the word that keeps coming to mind. As if they were shooting for Guardians of the Galaxy but landed on The Phantom Menace.

Here's a selection of the new stills that show off more of the alien characters and settings than we've seen so far.

We really want to be wrong about this one. We want to believe again. Maybe Jupiter Ascending will rock.

But what we're looking at isn't filling us with confidence.
