A massive change is coming for Disney, and this is centering on the streaming services of the company including Disney+ and Hulu that would all see a price hike on its monthly subscriptions. Amidst the price hike, there was also massive news regarding Disney's streaming that will center on a password-sharing crackdown for accounts.

In Netflix's bid to raise more of its userbase and revenue, password-sharing worked for the company's operations, a successful venture for the platform.

As per the latest announcement by Disney, massive changes are coming to its streaming platforms, Disney+ and Hulu, centering on the price hike for the services.

Currently, Disney+ is offered for $11 per month for its ad-free streaming, but it will see an almost $3 price increase now offered for $13.99. On the other hand, Hulu is also seeing this increase from its $15 per month pricing, now offered for $17.99.

Disney+'s $110 annual pricing is also seeing a $30 increase, now available for $139.99.

The change in streaming prices would take place by October 12, but the good thing is the ad-supported tiers of both Disney Plus and Hulu are not seeing any changes for now.

Password-Sharing Crackdown for Disney

As reported by CNET (via Disney's third-quarter earnings call), Disney CEO Bob Iger regarded that there will be a password-sharing crackdown for Disney's streaming platforms. This is similar to what Netflix has pioneered for its platform where people who share accounts will be restricted from accessing content unless they transfer for a separate, full-paying one.

It is unknown how Disney would handle this said account-sharing/password-sharing ordeal, especially as it is a means for the company to boost its profits.

Streaming Platforms and their Operations

Back in early 2023, Netflix finally enforced its password-sharing crackdown among the public, and it asked for massive changes on the platform, particularly its subscriptions. People not sharing the same household will no longer be able to use the same Netflix account for streaming, and it would notify users regarding this whenever detected.

Amidst these changes on Netflix, there have been reports of a possible scenario where other streaming platforms would also follow suit, but none so far have established it until now.

Disney's streaming program is a massive one and the company has massive plans to develop better experiences, including the new platform by the end of this year, combining both Disney+ and Hulu.

While there are impending changes for Disney's streaming for the coming months, it also saw massive cost-cutting actions by the company including layoffs and removing several titles to save money. Amidst the many tweaks on the platform, there are also the latest price hikes for its leading streaming platforms, as well as a plan for a password-sharing crackdown that takes a page from Netflix.
