Receiving Grant from Indonesia

Indonesia has granted its inaugural "Golden Visa" to Sam Altman, Chief Executive Officer of OpenAI. CNBC reported that this comes just one week after the program's launch, designed to lure foreign investment into Southeast Asia's largest economy.

Silmy Karim, Indonesia's Director General of Immigration, explained that Golden visas are offered to individuals with international renown who can bring advantages to Indonesia, in addition to those based on investment and capital investment.

Karim expressed that Altman can actively contribute to the advancement and utilization of AI technology in Indonesia. The Golden Visa is granted for a duration of 10 years. Earlier this year, Altman was in Indonesia as part of a tour that took him to major cities in Asia. This includes Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul, and Singapore.

As a holder of this prestigious visa, the American entrepreneur will benefit from expedited airport procedures at various airports throughout Indonesia's extensive archipelago. Additionally, he will have extended stay periods and simplified entry and exit processes.

As reported by Time, this fresh visa program offers the opportunity for foreign investors to reside in the country for a period ranging from five to ten years.

For instance, an individual who commits to a $350,000 investment in shares of domestic public companies, savings accounts, or government bonds qualifies for a five-year residency.

While Altman's specific investment strategies in Indonesia remain undisclosed, his recent visit to Jakarta to discuss the future of artificial intelligence suggests a strong inclination toward engaging with the nation's technological ecosystem.

The "Golden Visa" may serve as a catalyst for potential collaborations aimed at enhancing Indonesia's presence and influence in the global arena of AI and technology.
