A new feature from Lyft is now here to give its riders a sense of safety and security, as well as peace of mind with Women+ Connect, now launching in five cities in its debut. The feature would match the user with women or nonbinary drivers who are already working with the company, as well as encourage more to join them in their quest to deliver a well-rounded service.

This service comes both ways from Lyft, as it could match female or nonbinary riders, and also the other way around for its drivers who also feel unsafe and face threats from men.

Lyft announced a new feature via its latest release that would help its service see better days with the Women+ Connect now launching to select cities. The company claimed that this feature is highly requested by its customers and drivers, with Lyft centering on "camaraderie" and "comfort" as some of the reasons why this feature is now available.

The new feature will help connect "women and nonbinary drivers with more women and nonbinary riders," says Lyft, and is launching in 5 cities on its debut including Chicago, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, and San Jose.

"Women+ Connect is all about providing more women and nonbinary people the opportunity to earn money on their terms and giving riders more choice," as per Lyft CEO David Risher.

The Verge previously reported that female rideshare drivers face harassment and sexual assault from passengers, and also feel unsupported by their companies.

Riders may choose to "Count me in" on the Women+ Connect feature to link them up with women and nonbinary drivers, and vice versa.

This also looks to invite more women and nonbinary drivers to join Lyft and rideshare with customers.

Lyft and the Many Features Available

There are many ride-hailing services in the world and the country, but each service stands out for its special offers, with Lyft being known for its niche clientele, women.

The company initially started as a service that provides safe and protected services for women, with their CEOs of 11 years Logan Green and John Zimmer resigning their posts earlier this year.

However, despite being a company that offers a secure and safe experience for women, the company faced massive controversies in the past, centering on various forms of discrimination from its services. One is women facing longer ride times compared to men using the app, and the other is African-American riders facing longer wait times, with the issue raised against Lyft and Uber

Various controversies before had ride-hailing services see an improvement over the years, with a more inclusive service for both riders and drivers, as well as giving importance to their safety and well-being.

Lyft's Women+ Connect now offers a chance to match the drivers' preference on who to engage with, ensuring their rides are more comfortable and avoiding the many risks that women, nonbinary, and others experience daily.
