Good news for Lego and Super Mario fans! Lego recently unveiled its latest creation designed exclusively for adult collectors: the Super Mario Piranha Plant set.

Now, here is a quick look at the details of this exciting release, exploring its features, pricing, and the intriguing Mario 64 reference that has fans buzzing with anticipation.

A Blooming Surprise from Lego

Lego recently teased the Piranha Plant set on their official X account, accompanied by the cryptic message: "Waking soon... discover the newest Lego Super Mario set emerging from our pipeline..."

The teaser video featured not only the unmistakable Piranha Plant but also the iconic music from Super Mario 64, evoking nostalgia for gamers of a certain era.

The Piranha Plant Lego Set

NintendoLife reports that this Piranha Plant set, expected to hit shelves on November 6, 2023, boasts 540 meticulously crafted pieces.

When fully assembled, the plant stands proudly at over 9 inches tall, making it an impressive centerpiece for your home or office decor.

What sets this kit apart is its remarkable posability. You can manipulate the mouth, head, stalk, and leaves, recreating those classic Piranha Plant poses from the Super Mario games.

Price Point and Availability

The Lego Piranha Plant set comes with a price tag of $59.99 in the United States and £57.99 in the United Kingdom.

While it falls under the adult collectors' category, this price point is reasonable for the level of detail and nostalgia it offers.

The set is already available for purchase on the official Lego store website, and you can also expect to find it at select retailers.

A Growing Collection

For fans of both Lego and Nintendo, this release marks the fourth collaboration between the two iconic brands.

The journey began with the Lego NES in 2020, followed by the Lego Super Mario 64-themed question block in 2021 and a menacing Lego Bowser in 2022.

Lego has been on a roll, extending its gaming-themed sets to include Sonic the Hedgehog, an Atari 2600 console, and even a Lego version of the Tallneck from Horizon Forbidden West.

The Design Process

VGC tells us that Carl Merriam, a senior designer at Lego Super Mario, shared insights into the creative process behind the Piranha Plant set.

"When designing the Piranha Plant, it felt important to capture its distinctive features and ensure that the set could be positioned in a way that reflects its iconic poses," Merriam explained.

"I'm so proud of the finished result, from the mouth to the leaves and stalk, we've managed to perfectly portray the menacing essence of the Piranha Plant!"
