Sony Access Controller for PlayStation Is 5 Years in the Making

The development of the Access controller spanned five years and involved exploring six design concepts and numerous consultations with accessibility experts and community playtesters with disabilities.

The aim was to craft a design that could adapt to the needs of a wide spectrum of players. The accessibility journey begins right from the moment the product is unboxed.

Sony has designed the Access controller's packaging with the user in mind. It can easily be opened with one hand, featuring loops that can be pulled from either side.

The interior layout is organized with slots for efficiently storing the various kit components, including 19 interchangeable button caps and three stick caps.

While the Access controller is intended as a ready-to-use solution for many players with disabilities, it acknowledges the diversity of needs within the accessibility community.

This round, customizable controller, designed to be placed on a table or wheelchair tray, has programmable buttons, larger touchpads, and easy-to-use ports for external devices such as switches and joysticks.
