Remember when internet speeds were only bringing kilobytes per second speeds (Kbps) for users? In the modern day, different companies are competing to bring humongous speeds, with Google's Fiber now claiming that its 20 Gbps service is now available for early access, particularly for those who are part of the pilot testing experience from the company.

Despite a slow rollout now, Google promises that all users will get to receive their 20 Gbps and WiFi 7-capable routers soon, for all users.

Google Fiber and the GFiber Labs announced the massive upgrade for all, with its 20 Gbps internet speeds now available for early access users.

The company said that this upgrade was thanks to its use of the new Nokia technology, allowing them to take advantage of 20 Gbps speeds.

"GFiber will be one of the first ISPs to deploy Nokia's 25G PON technology, which will allow our customers to break the 10 Gig barrier that limited existing architectures. Nokia's 25G PON provides up to 10x speeds energy efficiently and without requiring any changes to the existing fiber in the ground," said Nick Saporito, Head of Product at GFiber Labs.

The company is looking to bring the experience to all users soon, with the early access now getting the upgrade to access this outrageous speeds, paired with the next-gen WiFi.

While the humongous internet speeds are still in early access, GFiber Labs also bundles this with another upgrade, centering on the 20 Gbps + Wi-Fi 7 for users. This means that those who are eligible to enjoy the service will get an upgrade soon.

GFiber Labs claimed that the residential 20 Gig + Wi-Fi 7 will come to users by the end of the year, looking to expand beyond 20 Gbps in the future.

Google Fiber and Its Capabilities

While Google is a trusted name in internet browsing, its internet service is slowly looking to expand in the country, and up until late 2020, the company only offered 2 Gbps speeds in Nashville, Tennessee, and Huntsville, Alabama. Still, this did not mean that it was slow to roll out improvements and technology to its famed internet service, centering on fiber optics connections.

Fast forward to 2023, Google promised that it would launch new internet capacity plans for its users, offering as much as 5 Gbps and 8 Gbps to users, made available almost three years later. One of the most notable features of Google Fiber is its straightforward subscription tiers, and it centers on an all-internet service, as the company already dropped its television bundles for users.

In three years, Google Fiber improved its internet speeds by as much as ten times more than what it initially offered in 2020, back when the company was looking to expand more of what it has to offer. With 20 Gbps coming soon for all and now available for early access, users may get to enjoy an outrageous browsing experience, as well as WiFi 7 connections for their needs.
