The White House Historical Association has unveiled its plan to open a new educational center called "The People's House: A White House Experience." 

Situated just a block away from the White House, this 33,000-square-foot, three-floor facility is set to open its doors to the public in the fall of 2024. The center aims to provide visitors with an immersive understanding of the Executive Mansion's historical significance.

The People's House Near White House

The space will feature a range of exhibits and galleries designed to bring the rich history of the White House to life. Among the highlights will be a large-scale model of the White House, a replica of the Rose Garden, and a full-scale reproduction of the Oval Office.

These exhibits will employ cutting-edge technology to create an engaging and educational experience for visitors. During the Association's biennial gala, First Lady Jill Biden highlighted the innovative and immersive nature of "The People's House."

She emphasized the educational aspect, underlining its role in teaching students about the origins of the United States and the individuals who have shaped its history.

"'The People's House: A White House Experience' will be an innovative, immersive, and educational journey - one that transports visitors to different chapters in time," the first lady said during the event.

"At its core, this project is about education - teaching our students about our country's origins, bringing to life the countless people who shaped it and who made the White House into the beating heart of our democracy," she added.

Gateway to the White House's History

The project, overseen by the architectural firm Gensler, which recently completed renovations on the building, aims to offer an inviting space for visitors to delve into the rich history of one of the world's most significant institutions. 

Ralph Appelbaum Associates is tasked with curating the exhibits, which will utilize state-of-the-art technology and media to create a meaningful connection between visitors and the historic building.

In addition to the exhibit and retail space, a new educational wing will be established above, allowing for further exploration of the center's contents by students and other groups. 

Its location at 1700 Pennsylvania Avenue NW positions it perfectly to serve as a gateway for visitors keen on delving into the history of the White House.

With millions of visitors traveling to Washington, D.C. annually, including numerous school trips and tourists from around the globe, this new educational center presents a significant opportunity to expand knowledge of White House history and its pivotal role in American democracy.

The project is expected to be a significant addition to the educational landscape of Washington, D.C., offering visitors a unique opportunity to delve into the history and significance of the White House.
