OnePlus, the iconic smartphone maker, is set to launch its affordable 12R model internationally in an unexpected move. While people are excited about the OnePlus 12's upcoming launch in the US, information about its cheaper version was kept secret until the company recently made it public.

OnePlus has broken with tradition by planning a global release for the R-branded version of its top phone, targeting customers in the US, Canada, and Europe. Previously, the phone was only sold in China. This change in strategy is meant to appeal to a wider range of customers who want a good balance between performance and price.

OnePlus 12R Leaked Specs

Fans got an early peek at the OnePlus 12R or OnePlus Ace 3 in China. A new release from an early China Telecom website made this feasible. According to leaks, the tablet boasts a 6.8-inch 1.5K screen with 2480x1264 pixels. The frame rate wasn't indicated, although most industry experts expect 120 Hz for a seamless user experience.

The OnePlus 12R's camera structure appears impressive, the report says. Its 50MP primary camera contains an IMX890 sensor, 8MP ultrawide lens, and 2MP zoom lens, according to GSMArena. These parameters indicate a versatile shooting experience for many photographers. The device is also believed to have a strong 5,500 mAh battery that can be charged quickly and efficiently with 100W fast charging.

Looking ahead, people who bought the OnePlus 12R should be aware that OnePlus may have more products coming out soon. There are rumors about a possible version called the OnePlus Ace 3V that might have a similar screen resolution but probably use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip. The OnePlus 2V, which came out in China as the OnePlus Nord 3, is an example of how OnePlus has changed names for foreign versions in the past.

According to information that got out, the OnePlus 12R will be officially unveiled in China on January 4, per TechRadar. It will then be available all over the world on January 23. The US market will likely be part of this global rollout, which is in line with OnePlus's plan to grow beyond China and India in 2024.

While the leaked information gives a good idea of the OnePlus 12R's specs, one important thing is still unknown: how much it will cost. As people wait for the global launch on January 23, the OnePlus 12R's actual price will be made public. This could make it even more of a bargain smartphone option.

Software Boost with Latest Update

As OnePlus enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the OnePlus 12, a surprising update is in the pipeline for the OnePlus Open, as per a report from Tom's Guide.  Addressing a common gripe among users, the upcoming update, officially termed CPH2551_13.2.0.203(EX01), focuses on Oxygen OS 13.2, bringing notable enhancements to the device.

Despite expectations for Android 14, the update centers on refining user experience and security. Noteworthy improvements include enhanced system stability, optimized touch control algorithms, and the incorporation of December 2023 Android Security Updates.

The update aims to deliver a smoother user interface by addressing potential touch control nuances. Additionally, it promises to reduce power consumption during idle periods and specific app usage. This optimization is particularly interesting given the OnePlus Open's already commendable battery life, recognized as the best among foldable phones.

Camera-related bug fixes are also part of the update. Users can expect resolution of a shutter lag issue associated with nightscape mode and rectification of unresponsive Retouch, Filters, Resolution, and Flash functions.
