"I quickly responded to the news and 'closed' the camp before the quarantine was announced. Workers lived there for two months under constant supervision. They underwent tests and got vaccinated," stated Orazkhan Karsybekov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of KazPetrol.

"Construction materials were left outside for some time before use. Initially, of course, it was difficult to convince people that this was necessary, but when infections reached large-scale proportions, everyone agreed that it was the right decision," he added.

Concurrently, oil prices dropped, and for almost a year, KazPetrol decided not to sell its products in order to minimize production.

How KazPetrol Increased Production and Efficiency

At the forefront of KazPetrol's operations is a relentless pursuit of technological innovation driven by Yerkin Tatishev's vision for industry-leading practices. 

Through collaborative efforts with renowned global oilfield service companies like Schlumberger and Baker Hughes, KazPetrol developed an automated information collection and processing system known as Digital Smart Oil Field. This system, implemented in 2018, has yielded significant results, including an 8% increase in oil production and a 5% improvement in well operation efficiency.

Yerkin Tatishev Presents Threefold Revenue Growth

Yerkin Tatishev's role extends beyond KazPetrol, with Kusto Group serving as a strategic partner in the company's expansion endeavors. 

In March 2022, KazPetrol acquired a 99.9% stake in the Galaz and Company oil firm, signaling its commitment to enhancing production capacity and market presence. Under Tatishev's leadership, KazPetrol successfully increased oil production at the Galaz field from 2500 to 10,000 tons per month, resulting in a threefold revenue growth from 2.56 billion tenge in 2021 to 8.48 billion tenge in 2022.

Despite its successes, KazPetrol faces challenges, including logistical complexities exacerbated by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and sanctions against Russia. Looking ahead, KazPetrol remains committed to its digital transformation journey, with plans to launch the Digital Oilfield Project in 2024, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize oil extraction processes and enhance reservoir management.
