Amazon's renowned live-streaming platform, Twitch, now imposes a price hike over selected regions worldwide. However, this would be the first of it as more are expected to see this new pricing for various platform aspects. This was amidst the massive changes made by Amazon for Twitch, including the recent layoffs for employees and reduced revenue from Prime subscriptions for streamers.

The good thing is, that there are several workarounds to the price hike on Twitch, especially for those who still want to continue channel and gift subs on the platform.

How to Avoid Twitch's Price Hikes?

Twitch noted that this price hike is applicable for web subscriptions only, which means there is a way to pay the same fees for channel subscriptions and gift subs. This is by doing the transactions on the mobile platform, but it would not be for long, as the streaming platform claimed that it would soon update the mobile pricing for all.

Moreover, the four countries mentioned above are only the first planned price hikes, with more countries and pricing to be updated in the future.

Twitch's Streaming Platform

There have been massive changes on Twitch lately, something that Amazon enforced on the company that led to several new experiences for users and streamers alike. One of the past changes was removing the Twitch streaming experience on the Nintendo Switch, with Amazon officially ending support for the dedicated app after initial rumors.

Moreover, its entry in 2024 also saw a significant shift in the market, with Amazon deciding to shut down Twitch's operations in South Korea in the new year. This shutdown was due to the massive network costs in the country, citing that the company already tried to reduce the fees imposed to them, but was unbearable already, going as far as to say that it is 10 times more expensive here than in other regions.

Also, there was a massive dispute regarding the "artistic nudity" content found on Twitch, as the platform initially allowed these types of streams for a selected audience to see and later went back on its decision. Now, the latest changes on Twitch are its subscription pricing for the four countries mentioned above, with a way to avoid the more expensive fees by simply doing so on the mobile.
