Bloomberg reported that in today's Apple annual shareholders meeting, the Cupertino giant was planning to unveil new AI developments, but was prevented from doing so. That being said, Tim Cook stepped up to the plate and gave a teaser to the world, claiming that Apple will "break new ground" on generative AI this year, possibly to be seen by the public soon.

In the meeting, the shareholders rejected Apple's bid to release a report on AI and ethics, holding back on what was supposedly new information on what the company has worked on these past months.

What to Expect from Apple's Generative AI Developments

One of the most significant pieces of information behind Apple's generative AI developments is with the next iPhone operating system, iOS 18, which Mark Gurman believes to bring new features and technology for all. This also follows the news behind the Apple Car's cancellation which shifts the company's focus towards AI, ramping up its efforts and resources for this widely used tech.

Apple AI: Cupertino's Upcoming Shift to the Tech

The early race for generative AI started last early 2023, and this centered on new developments from OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google which introduced their takes on this technology. However, among the many tech companies that joined this, Apple was not one to rush into the hype and deliver its development, yet rumors believe it is creating a "ChatGPT-style" AI.

On several occasions in the past, Cupertino's renowned CEO has teased massive AI developments that will potentially come to its devices via their respective software soon. Cook addressed the massive growth of AI in the industry, and also hints at the possibility of its arrival in Apple products in the future, centering on the latest of what it has to offer, with no specifics yet.

Reported developments of Apple's researchers and engineers popped up throughout the past months, and this was said to be coming to the company's devices and software to deliver the experience to all.

Cook and Apple know that something is brewing for its generative AI developments, but it was not given a green light to discuss it now, but it is expected to come this mid-year amidst one of its biggest events for 2024.
