Texas has launched a new initiative to strengthen the state's microchip manufacturing sector and enhance workforce training programs in collaboration with colleges and universities.

Governor Greg Abbott unveiled the Texas Innovation Consortium Fund during an event held at the University of Texas at Dallas, emphasizing the state's commitment to semiconductor production and workforce development.

"Texas is the birthplace of the integrated circuit, and we now lead the nation as the No. 1 state for semiconductor manufacturing," Governor Abbott said in a press release statement.

"With these new appointments to the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Consortium Executive Committee, we will leverage the expertise of industry leaders and our world-class higher education institutions to ensure we not only remain the best state in America for semiconductors but we become a global leader for semiconductor innovation."

Texas Announces Innovation Consortium Fund for Semiconductors

According to Abbott, the establishment of the fund reflects Texas' dedication to maintaining its position as a leader in semiconductor manufacturing and attracting additional investment from both the public and private sectors.

He described the initiative as a pivotal step towards solidifying Texas' competitiveness in the global semiconductor market and emphasized the significance of the state's role in advancing research, design, and manufacturing in the semiconductor industry.

The Texas Semiconductor Innovation Consortium Executive Committee (TSIC EC) oversees the consortium's activities and collaborates with industry stakeholders to drive advancements in semiconductor research, design, and manufacturing.

Governor Abbott highlighted the committee's role in leveraging the expertise of industry leaders and higher education institutions to ensure Texas remains a frontrunner in semiconductor innovation.

Key figures, including Speaker Dade Phelan, Representative Greg Bonnen, Representative Angie Chen Button, and Representative Mihaela Plesa, along with prominent leaders from the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M System, joined Governor Abbott at the announcement.

Speaker Phelan emphasized the importance of semiconductor manufacturing to Texas' economy and underscored the need for continued investment in research and design to maintain the state's leadership position in the industry.

"Semiconductors are increasingly ubiquitous in our everyday lives, and it is important we work to ensure Texas remains at the forefront of advanced semiconductor research and design. Our state has always been America's trailblazer, and the work done by this committee will help keep Texas a leader in innovation," Speaker Phelan said in a statement.
