With BYD on the pyramid of China's electric vehicle (EV) market, foreign automakers might have a hard time catching up, but Honda is built differently.

The Japanese car manufacturer is set to challenge the Chinese EV sector with the introduction of six new models under its Ye Series.

This expansion includes the debut of the P7 and S7 crossovers, scheduled for release by the close of 2024, along with an appealing peek at the GT Concept, slated to arrive in late 2025.

As the EV competition in China intensifies, Honda looks forward to snatching the driver's seat with BYD, following the announcement about the upcoming "Ye" electric cars.

With an eye on challenging dominant players like BYD, Honda aims to bolster its presence in China's EV industry through the Ye Series.

According to the company, the brand name "Ye" (烨), meaning "shine" in Chinese, signifies Honda's commitment to driving pleasure and individuality.

Distinctive Styling and Features

The Ye Series showcases Honda's innovative design philosophy, featuring a simplified H emblem and vibrant color options. The P7 and S7 crossovers, distinguished by their unique characteristics, promise a blend of sophistication and emotion in their design language.

Design Highlights

Both models boast sleek profiles with black pillars, flush door handles, and angular wheel arches. While the Ye P7 embodies a classic Honda aesthetic, the Ye S7 offers a touch of luxury reminiscent of Cadillac, particularly from the rear angle, Honda writes in its latest post.

Interior and Technology

Although interior images are yet to be revealed, Honda assures spacious cabins and cutting-edge technology. An AI-powered assistant will control LED ambient lighting, enhancing the driving experience for occupants.

Technical Specifications

Riding on a new EV-dedicated platform developed in China, the Ye Series offers options between single and dual electric motors. The RWD variants promise sporty handling, while the AWD models boast enhanced power and responsiveness.

Ye GT Concept

The GT Concept epitomizes Honda's vision for the future, featuring a sleek silhouette and upscale design cues. Its driver-centric interior, complemented by a "far-focus" display for the front passenger, offers a glimpse into the automotive luxury of tomorrow.

Excitement mounts as the Ye P7, S7, and GT Concept make their public debut at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show. Production will be overseen by Dongfeng Honda and Guangqi Honda joint ventures, aligning with Honda's broader goal of introducing 10 EVs in China by 2027.

Honda Will Try to Catch Up With BYD

The Chinese car industry is fully embracing the power of EVs. With BYD now on top, it will be harder for other automakers who started with gas-powered cars to catch up.

Currently, BYD continues to post impressive sales in China, driving foreign brands out of the country, per Electrek.

In 2023, Honda's sales plunged to 10% and this was even lower than its 2022 record.

If Honda wants to turn things around, there's a need to release never-before-seen models that will captivate Chinese consumers.

The Ye brand could be Honda's answer to accelerate the fast-growing EV market in mainland China ground.

Earlier this year, BYD touted the Yuan Up SUV to be the next affordable electric car to buyers.
