Sam Smith, Sia and Ed Sheeran will take home top honors at the 2015 Grammy Awards, being held this upcoming Sunday evening, if streaming music trends are any indication.
Based on metrics from the billions of streams from its roughly 60 million subscribers, Spotify is predicting the winners of the 57th annual Grammy Awards.
Spotify is using an aggregate of streams and degree of virality to arrive at favorites and dark horse picks for the 2015 Grammy winners of Album Of The Year, Record of The Year, Song of The Year and Best New Artist. Record of the Year is for a single or for one track from an album, while Song of the Year recognizes the songwriter.
The favorites were selected based on the total times content was streamed, whiled dark horse picks were chosen based on virality. Big data strikes again.
"[We] analyzed the listening habits of its 60 million users worldwide to look at the most viral songs, albums, and artists in those categories to predict the possible "dark horses," states Spotify in a release.
Here are the 2015 Grammy Award winners, according to Spotify:
Record of the Year is "Chandelier" by Sia, who found herself in both Spotify's favorites and dark horse categories.
Album of the Year is X by Ed Sheeran, though Pharrell Williams' G I R L could emerge out of left field for an upset.
Best New Artist will be Sam Smith, though he shouldn't "Latch" onto the idea of winning the award as Bastille could swoop in to take the award.
Song of the Year is Sia's "Chandelier." But unlike the singer's Record of the Year Nomination, there is dark horse competition from Hozier's "Take Me to Church."
