Even as AT&T owners of the Samsung Galaxy S5 languish for the Lollipop update, the U.S. carrier's model of the LG G3 has piped other smartphones in the race for Android 5.0 Lollipop.

AT&T has lived up to its promise of pushing out the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update for LG G3 users - albeit later than its "end of 2014" time window. However, better late than never considering LG G3 variants of other major U.S. carriers are yet to benefit from the software update.

On Tuesday, Feb. 10, AT&T began pushing out the much-awaited Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update for the LG G3. The software update is an over-the-air (OTA) one and has the build number LRX21Y.

"AT&T released a software update for the LG G3 (D850) on February 10, 2015. This update will be pushed to customers via the Firmware Over the Air (FOTA) over Wi-Fi only," notes the carrier.

AT&T LG G3 users who were on Android KitKat will finally benefit from the enhancements, improvements and new features the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update (which is between 689 MB to 721 MB) brings in its folds.

The software update brings stability improvements and Google setup wizard per the carrier's changelog.

Reddit user "TheGarrBear" revealed that he had already received the software update.

To check if the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update has hit your device navigate to Settings > System > About Device > Software Update > Check for Updates.

If the OTA update is available for pulling, then users will espy the available update. Select "OK" and continue. Download the update by connecting to a Wi-Fi network and reboot your device once the update has finished downloading.

However, before you download the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop software update make sure that your LG G3 handset has minimum 50 percent battery charge. Also, ensure there is sufficient memory space prior to downloading the software update.

While the update is unlikely to hamper any saved data it is recommended that users back-up important files on their PC or a media card prior to upgrading their LG G3 smartphone.
