Recently leaked benchmarks indicate that Samsung plans to release two very different versions of the Galaxy S5. One version of the Galaxy S5 will be a premium smartphone with all the high-end specifications and the other will be a more standard edition with less of a wow-factor.

The two alleged models of the Galaxy S5 are listed as SM-G900R4 and SM-G900H in the benchmark results for the AnTuTu test. Although both models run Android 4.4.2 KitKat and feature a 16-megapixel back camera, they have little else in common.

The SM-G900R4 is believed to be the premium version of the Galaxy S5, mainly because of its spectacular specifications. This premium model of Samsung's new flagship is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974AC processor, running at 2.5 GHz. It also features the Andreno 330 graphics processing unit and 3 GB of RAM. The device that was tested comes with 32 GB of storage onboard.

The premium Galaxy S5 has a 2K display of an unspecified size with a resolution of 2560 × 1400 pixels. It comes with a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera in addition to the aforementioned 16-megapixel back camera.

In the test, the premium Galaxy S5 scored 31,843 points. Although the score is lower than that of the Galaxy Note 3, it is to be expected. The Galaxy S5 has the same GPU as the Note 3, but its display is much more high-resolution, which results in more stress on the GPU and consequently, a lower score.

The standard Galaxy S5, which goes by the name of SM-G900H in the benchmark results, features a full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. This model is powered by Samsung's own octa-core Exynos 5422 processor, running at 1.5 GHz. It comes with a ARM Mali-T628 GPU, 2 GB RAM and 16 GB of storage, too. The standard model has the same camera setup as the premium model of the Galaxy S5.

Ironically, the standard version scored better in the benchmark test  than both the Note 3 and the premium Galaxy S5 with 35,445 points. However, as we all know, benchmarks aren't exactly the best way to determine which smartphone is better than the others. On paper, the premium version definitely has the higher-end specifications, but the standard version looks pretty high-end, too.

It's not really surprising that Samsung plans to offer different versions of the Galaxy S5, but it is interesting that the two are so markedly different and will allegedly arrive onstage at the same time. Obviously, since these are just leaked benchmark results, any information gleaned from this report should be treated with a dose of skepticism. Nonetheless, the benchmark leak looks pretty convincing this close to the launch date.

The Galaxy S5 launch is all-but confirmed for Feb. 24 in Barcelona, so we'll find out how much weight the rumors have then.
