He's not expected to show up in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (aside from maybe a flashback cameo or something), but in the time period where Disney XD's Star Wars Rebels is set, Darth Vader is entirely fair game. Vader is probably nearing the height of his power when Rebels takes place, so it's exciting to imagine the Sith Lord putting in an appearance on the animated show.

Technically, he appeared briefly in the pilot episode, though that was just a tacked-on cameo for a special showing of the episode on ABC. Now, he's set to appear for real in the show's Season 1 finale, and Disney XD has released a trailer to prove it. You'll have to watch close and not blink, though.

Did you see him? Vader was just visible in the quick-flash cuts at the very end. Here's a freeze-frame still taken from the video and brightened for your ease of viewing.

Is it just us, or does he look angrier than usual?

The season finale of Star Wars Rebels is titled "Fire Across the Galaxy," a title that serves as a strong bookend for the pilot, "Spark of Rebellion." It also features the return of the villainous Inquisitor (pictured up top), the Sith warrior that's been on the trail of the heroic Rebels all season.

The season so far has already delivered special appearances by characters from other Star Wars works, such as Luminara Unduli, Grand Moff Tarkin, Lando Calrissian, and R2-D2 and C-3PO. But there's no character (aside from maybe Yoda) that fans will be as excited as to see as Darth Vader.

"Fire Across the Galaxy" premieres Monday night, March 2, 2015.
