Just imagine how many global problems could be solved if the world's population gave them as much attention as they're now giving a dress whose colors inexplicably change and which, some say, is dividing the nation into two camps: gold and white versus blue and black.

One website has gone as far as tapping a consultant to solve the growing debate over why some people see one set of colors and not the other set. It seems it could just be a matter of lighting or tired eyes. It may just be a viewer's mood at the moment, or retina differences.

The raging online and social network discussions about the infamous dress, which many of us might even say is not one of the most attractive pieces of clothing, were ignited on Tumblr when user Swiked posted a photo of the dress and asked this simple question: "Guys please help me-is this dress white and gold, or blue and black? Me and my friends can't agree..."

Since the time that seemingly innocuous question was posed, the photo has gone viral with even A-list celebs sharing their input. A very unscientific poll reveals that 75 percent see the dress as white and gold.

"People who see blue and black are seeing the photo at face value. People who see gold and white are compensating to the photo's lighting and aesthetic," stated one report.

Movie star Julianne Moore is in the white and gold camp, while television sweetheart Mindy Kaling views the debate as "insane" but chirped in that she sees it as blue and black.

Of course, James Franco, an actor who can always be counted on for a stable, adult response to an issue, tweeted this: "Dress controversy...VIOLET and BLACK! Obvs." Maybe singer and songwriter Taylor Swift is taking the right attitude in the debate. She tweeted: "I don't understand this odd dress debate and I feel like it's a trick somehow. I'm confused and scared. PS it's OBVIOUSLY BLUE AND BLACK."

One media report declared an end to the debate by citing the input of an actual neurologist.

"It turns out the dress is actually blue and black. A Washington neuroscientist said the picture is one of the biggest sight differences he's ever seen," the report read.
