The wait is almost over: the fifth season of Game of Thrones will hit HBO this April, and the seemingly endless void between seasons will be gone.

Even so, the wait is still excruciating - there's more than a month left before the season premiere, and at this point, fans are losing their patience.

For better or for worse, HBO has released a pair of new teaser trailers online: while it's always great to get a sneak peek at new footage, it's only going to get fans even more excited for the upcoming season premiere:

Yes, the teasers are incredibly short, and they don't reveal much about next season's plot, but even getting a glimpse at what's to come is better than simply waiting in silence.

Even though the two teasers focus on returning characters, season five is set to be a bit of a departure for HBO's mega-hit series: by the end of the season, the show will have caught up with the books, and as such, there are going to be a few differences between the two. Fans of both the novels and the show are used to small differences between plotlines, but George R. R. Martin has confirmed that the fifth season of the show will feature deaths not seen in the book - it's the first sign that the two stories are about to go their own separate ways.

Until the show returns, the only thing to do is sit back, watch the teasers and pray that your favorite character won't meet an untimely end this season. After all, if the show's not necessarily following the books anymore, that means everyone is at risk.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO on April 12.
