The release of iOS 8.2 was packaged with a host of other news items presented during Apple's Spring Forward event. It may be best to wait for others to discover the bugs first, if there are any, but iOS 8.2 promises features and fixes that will ultimately improve the iPhone experience for users.

As is the case with iOS 8, version 8.2's compatibility only goes back so far. iOS 8.2 is compatible with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 4s, iPod Touch (fifth generation), iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad Mini, iPad Mini 2, iPad Mini 3, iPad (third generation) and iPad 2.

The iOS 8.2 update is especially important from a security standpoint. iOS 8.2 sews up security vulnerabilities discovered in iOS' CoreTelephony, iCloud Keychain, IOSurface, MobileStorageMounter, Secure Transport and Springboard.

One iOS 8.2 feature that some users may not welcome is the Apple Watch App. The Watch App can't be removed, despite the Apple Watch's lack of support for some legacy products.

iOS 8.2 improves the stability of Mail, Music, VoiceOver and Maps' Flyover. Stability enhancements also include improvements to connectivity for Made for iPhone Hearing Aids.

Along with the security patches, iOS 8.2 squashes a swarm of bugs. The bug fixes are as follows:

  • Fixes an issue in Maps that prevented navigating to some favorite locations
  • Addresses an issue in which last word in a quick reply message wasn't autocorrected
  • Fixes an issue where duplicate content purchased from iTunes could prevent the completion of iCloud restore
  • Fixes an issue where some music didn't sync from iTunes to Music
  • Fixes an issue that caused deleted audiobooks to remain on the device sometimes
  • Resolves an issue that could prevent call audio from routing to car speakers
  • Resolves a Bluetooth calling issue where no audio is heard until the call is answered
  • Fixes a timezone issue where Calendar events appear in GMT
  • Addresses an issue that caused certain events in a custom reoccurring meeting to drop from Exchange calendar
  • Fixes an certificate error that prevented configuring an Exchange account behind a third-party gateway
  • Fixes an issue that could cause an organizer's Exchange meeting notes to be overwritten
  • Resolves an issue that prevented some Calendar events from automatically showing as "busy" after accepting an invite.

iOS 8.2 also brings improvement to the Health platform:

  • Adds the ability to set the unit of measurement for blood glucose, weight, height, body tempurate and distance
  • Improve stability when dealing with large amounts of data
  • Delivers abililty to add and visualize workout sessions from third-party apps
  • Addresses an issue that may have prevented users from adding photos in Medical ID
  • Fixes units for vitamins and minerals
  • Fixes an issue where some graphs showed no values
  • Adds setting that enables the toggling of tracking steps, distance and flights of stairs climbed
