Tech company Eyefi, manufacturer of the Wi-Fi connected SD cards that have proven to be popular among photography enthusiasts and professionals, has launched an all-new Wi-Fi SD card with a capacity of 32GB named the Eyefi Mobi Pro.

Eyefi describes the Eyefi Mobi Pro as the "most powerful Wi-Fi SD card ever," and its specifications and features could really help photographers. However, the Eyefi Mobi Pro also has is downfalls.

The Eyefi Mobi Pro gives photographers the ability to choose which pictures are going to undergo an automatic transfer from the camera to either a mobile device in the JPEG file format for a quick review or to their computer in RAW file format for post-processing adjustments. This feature represents an upgrade to its predecessor, as the previous Mobi card transferred all the images taken to a mobile or computer without giving the user the option to choose which ones to transfer.

For mobile devices, the Eyefi Mobi Pro will take over the Wi-Fi connection momentarily while transferring images, then releases the connection once the transfer is done. At home, the Eyefi Mobi Pro may be set up to the local network so that transferring images will initiate seamlessly without causing any interruptions to the network or any device connected to the network.

However, a review by CNET on the Eyefi Mobi Pro points out the sluggish transfer speeds of the card at 23MB/second for reading and 13MB/second for writing, which are not ideal speeds for transferring huge batches of high-resolution images.

In addition, the price tag of $99.99 for a storage capacity of only 32GB could be considered as too expensive for some, though the convenience of immediate transfers would be worth it for certain photographers.

Users that purchase the Eyefi Mobi Pro will also receive a free one-year subscription to the Eyefi Cloud, which is the cloud storage service of Eyefi. The normal price for such a subscription stands at $49.99, an amount that the user needs to pay once the free membership runs out.

Among the new features added to the Eyefi Cloud with the launch of the Eyefi Mobi Pro is intelligent image categorization, wherein images are instantly classified according to information such as date, time, location and subject area. Images uploaded to the Eyefi Cloud can also be quickly compared with one another visually, along with their details such as aperture settings and shutter speed.

The Eyefi Mobi Pro is currently already available through the company's online store.
