Motorola has announced a new "College Collection" of colors and designs that allow users to show their school spirit by customizing the Moto X with their favorite college colors and logo.

Samsung used the Oscars to help promote its latest Galaxy smartphones and now Motorola is using March Madness. The company has announced that it has added a new "College Collection", which will allow users to customize a Moto X smartphone based on their favorite college. Users will find 9 new color options, along with three new accent colors to choose from when designing a Moto X using the Moto Maker site.

"Now, you can express your school spirit too! Just in time for the tournament, we're introducing the College Collection, a range of college-inspired Moto X customization options that allow you to showcase your favorite school colors. We took a look at college colors across the board and added nine new back colors and three new accents to our Moto Maker palette so you can create the ultimate fan phone," Motorola wrote on its blog.

Motorola has also added a design gallery, which includes over 40 pre-configured Moto X models you can choose from if you don't feel like designing your own. The company is also offering a special discount for students, faculty, and alum, which brings the price of an off-contract Moto X down to $339. To get the discount, Motorola will require you to resister at Motorola.com/college with a valid .edu email address.

As a reminder, the Moto X features a 4.7-inch HD AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 and runs Android 4.4 KitKat. The smartphone is powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with Motorola's X8 Computing System on board and an Adreno 320 graphics processing unit (GPU). It includes 16GB of internal storage, 50GB of Google Drive space for two years, and 2GB of RAM. The Moto X is running the latest version of Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.

Motorola has packed in a 10-megapixel CLEAR PIXEL rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, with the ability to record 1080p HD video. You'll also find a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat, which has the ability to capture 1080p video as well. The smartphone's wireless connectivity options include 4G LTE radio, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0 with LE and EDR. The handset ships with a 2,200 mAh non-removable battery, which will provide up to 24 hours of talk time and 10 days of standby time.
