The Samsung Galaxy S6 is set to be released in a few short weeks, and the announcement of the new phone is drawing mixed responses.

Some claim that Samsung is providing users with more options in apps, in addition to a refreshed design in the new device. Others however say that by removing the removable battery and microSD card slot, Samsung is not giving users what they want.

Design was clearly a very important factor for Samsung in creating the Galaxy S6 — the new device boasts a completely different design from the Galaxy S5. It has a sleek glass backing and looks somewhat similar to Apple's iPhone 6.

Samsung clearly needed a change. Sales of the Galaxy series have been stalling over the past year or so, suggesting that users are getting tired of the minor changes Samsung made to the design of the series since it was first released.

The change is for the better. The new design offers customers a classy look that is likely to appeal to those who may have held off on the Galaxy series so far.

Despite the fact that many users don't like the lack of microSD on the Galaxy S6, it's still a step forward for Samsung. MicroSD cards are a little fidgety, which means that users have to balance the location of their files.

Samsung is offering users an alternative to this outdated form of storage with a year of 100GB Microsoft OneDrive storage. Cloud storage is far easier to use, safer for those who need to back up important files and is accessible across multiple devices.

Samsung has also finally made the move from using Qualcomm processors to its own homemade Exynos chipset. This has been an expected move from Samsung for a while now. While many suggest that the move was forced because of overheating issues with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, that doesn't change the fact that the move was bound to happen.

Samsung has made a decision that might alienate some users — but it's ultimately for the better. Sacrificing some outdated features for a superior design is a good move for the company, as customers increasingly prefer a good-looking smartphone. Users will have to move to cloud storage without the microSD card slot, but cloud storage is the way of the future anyway.
