The trailer for the new James Bond movie Spectre was released on Friday, March 27 on the franchise's official site 007.com.

The first teaser, however, is a tad low key and does not give glimpses into action sequences, such as chases or explosions, which are synonymous with Bond movies, of course. The trailer does culminate in a solitary gunshot in the end.

"In Spectre, a cryptic message from Bond's past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind Spectre," hinted the official trailer's description.

Spectre, directed by Sam Mendes, sees the return of Daniel Craig as Agent 007. This is the fourth movie that casts Craig in the iconic role. This time, Bond may be holding back some truth about his past - something he cannot share with anyone.

"You've got a secret - something you can't tell anyone because you don't trust anyone," says Eve Moneypenny, played by Naomie Harris.

The teaser gives little away but suggests that the film will delve into Bond's mysterious and shady past.

The trailer shows Moneypenny giving Bond his personal belongings from his childhood home, Skyfall, which burned down in the last movie.

For those wondering what the term "spectre" signifies, it is actually an acronym for Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion, a global terrorist organization. Spectre was led by the villainous Ernst Stavro Blofeld who made an appearance in the 1962 Bond film Dr. No.

In the latest Bond movie, though, Spectre is seen headed by Franz Oberhauser, played by Christoph Waltz. The character utters in the teaser: "Welcome, James. It's been a long time and finally, here we are."

The cast of Spectre includes Ralph Fiennes, who takes over as the new M from Dame Judi Dench; Ben Whishaw, who reprises his role as Q; Monica Bellucci and Lea Seydoux.

Spectre is set for release in the UK and Ireland on Oct. 23 this year. The worldwide release is slated for Nov. 6. In the meantime, check out the trailer below and tell us what you think:
