Verizon has begun rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to users of its LG G2 smartphone on its network, and reports state that an update for the current flagship G3 is imminent on both Verizon and T-Mobile.

Verizon has officially begun pushing the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to owners of the LG G2. Owners of the smartphone have already reported receiving the update, which Verizon announced via a lengthy 6 page document illustrating the changes coming to the G2 via Lollipop 5.0, stating:  "Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce an operating system update to Android 5.0 Lollipop. This version brings Android beyond smartphones and tablets, allowing access to apps and Android services on other connected screens like TV's, cars and wearables. The new material design offers complex animations and 3-D views, 64-bit ABI support and improved runtime."

Users of the LG G3 on the Verizon network are still awaiting their Lollipop update, but reports claim that now that the G2 release has occurred, the company should be rolling out the G3 update in "the near future". Users may recall a false start for the Verizon LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update rollout back in February. Although some Verizon LG G3 owners received the update at that time, the wide rollout never occurred, indicating some issues with the OS software. A similar situation occurred with Verizon's Galaxy S5 rollout, which was initiated, then halted, and finally released several days ago.

The Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the LG G2 and G3 has not yet been released for T-Mobile customers, but significant progress has been made, as the company moved the status of the update on its company page from "Manufacturer Development" to "T-Mobile Testing", indicating that the device is now in the final stages prior to actual rollout for both devices
