Apple is reportedly working on an iMac with an even better display than the iMac with a 5K display, according to LG.

The news was accidentally reported by LG in a post about displays of the future, saying that 8K will be dubbed "super-high resolution."

"It has become clear that Japan is planning to launch an 8K SHV test broadcast and then promptly restructure the UHD service," said LG in its blog post. "Apple has also announced that they will release the 'iMac 8K' with a super-high resolution display later this year."

Despite this, Apple has made no such announcement, at least not publicly, suggesting that the information from LG is either fake, or the more likely option, that LG knows something that we don't. Not only that, but Apple is likely also working with LG for its iMac computers as it has done in the past. In fact, LG is the manufacturer behind the 5K display in the current top-of-the-line iMac. It is certainly possible that LG is manufacturing an 8K display for a new iMac.

The information is somewhat surprising considering Apple only just launched its iMac with a 5K display, with many assuming that this year we would simply see a refresh of the computer, expected in the fall.

If the rumor is true, however, Apple can't be happy about LG leaking the information. Apple is known for liking to keep things extremely quiet until it takes the wraps off of new products, and if it did not give LG permission to announce this news, LG may have landed itself in some trouble.

Apple's latest iMac has an already stellar 5K display, which is far better than most computer displays on the market today. Boasting 5,120 by 2,880 pixels, the computer is perfect for photographers and graphic designers who might need that extra bit of clarity.

Display resolution has been an important factor for buying computers and computer displays for a while now. While a few years ago a 1080p display was considered top-of-the-line, these days companies are offering 4K displays with resolutions of 4,096 by 2,160 pixels. Apple already took things a step further with the 5K display.

Despite the news, there are a number of things that could prevent Apple from releasing the iMac with an 8K display later this year. For example, 4K content is already hard to come by, and it's highly unlikely that movie studios and content creators will begin offering 8K content any time soon.
