The Samsung Galaxy A3 has received its first Android 5.0 Lollipop update. The company has released the operating software in Russia, and other territories are expected to follow.

Samsung has been busy developing Android 5.0 Lollipop updates for its higher end smartphone series. The updates already released across the globe include those for the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5 Active, Galaxy S5 Sport, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note Edge.

Samsung has also developed the Android 5.1 Lollipop updates for its two newest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, both of which are shipped with the new operating system installed out of the box, along with the new and improved version of TouchWiz, Samsung's exclusive user interface.

While the release of the Android 5.0 Lollipop update is still rolling out on some carriers and regions for the company's flagships, Samsung now appears to be turning to some of its more affordable mid-range devices to receive the update. We recently reported that an internal company document confirmed the approval of Android 5.0 Lollipop updates for the Samsung Galaxy A series of smartphones, which includes the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7.

The A range was introduced late last year in an effort to compete with other mid-range phone manufacturers. The design of the phones is based on the Galaxy Alpha and contains a more premium build than previous Samsung mid-range offerings and includes metal elements and a more fashionable, slim design. The range is offered in various territories outside of the U.S., including China, India, the UK and Russia.

Russian Galaxy A3 owners are the first to receive the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the range, and it comes to the most affordable smartphone in the line. The device is receiving the 5.0.2 version of Android Lollipop, which will be pushing out over the air to owners of the device. No news has emerged on the release of the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to other regions or other smartphones in the range, but we'll be sure to keep you posted on the latest developments.
