The teaser for the Fifty Shades of Grey's sequel - Fifty Shades Darker - has leaked online ahead of the Blu-ray release of the first movie in the series.

Produced by Universal Studios, Fifty Shades Darker is the second movie in the Fifty Shades trilogy and is based on author E.L. James' popular book.

The leaked teaser for Fifty Shades Darker is 30 seconds long and gives a glimpse into protagonist Christian Grey - the kinky billionaire essayed by Jamie Dornan - putting on a bowtie and jacket. Grey looks suave in his tuxedo as he proceeds to don a black mask in front of the mirror, seemingly getting ready for a masquerade party as the scene transitions from color to black and white.

The scene is followed by the ominous sounding tagline "are you ready for something darker?"

While actress Dakota Johnson is anticipated to return as Anastasia Steele, Sam Taylor-Johnson will not return as director following her infamous clashes with author James during the making of Fifty Shades of Grey. It is not known yet who will direct the sequel.

The original screenwriter Kelly Marcel too has stepped down and James' husband Niall Leonard is slated to write the screenplay for the movie adaptation. Leonard apparently did a draft for the first film.

According to Donna Langley, Universal's chairman, Fifty Shades Darker is poised to be "more of a thriller."

Fifty Shades Darker is set to hit the theaters on Feb. 10, 2017 ahead of Valentine's Day. The third and final movie in the trilogy is poised for a Feb. 9, 2018 release.

Fifty Shades of Grey broke several box office records when it debuted on Valentine's Day weekend this year, grabbing the numero uno spot in 54 territories. With a different director and screenplay writer on board, it remains to be seen if Fifty Shades Darker will be able to weave the same magic when it releases in 2017.
