Ever since Disney purchased Lucasfilm, most fans have been focused on Star Wars. It's understandable: the company announced a slew of new movies, video games and TV series, so it makes sense that people are excited to return to a galaxy far, far away.

With that being said, there's another franchise that fans should be just as excited about — Indiana Jones.

While it's true that the fourth film didn't exactly meet the standards of its predecessors, the original Indiana Jones films are still widely regarded as some of the best adventure movies to ever hit the silver screen.

They were modern retellings of classic adventure serials — and, while many have tried to replicate the franchise's success, none have come close to matching it.

With work on restarting the Star Wars universe underway, it seems like the higher-ups at Lucasfilm and Disney have started to look towards the future. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that a new Indiana Jones film is on the way ... but fans shouldn't expect it anytime soon.

From Vanity Fair:

"In buying the company, Disney also got rights, for better or worse, to less-storied Lucasfilm properties, among them Willow and Radioland Murders. A bigger prize is the Indiana Jones franchise. Kennedy confirmed rumors that another Indy movie 'will one day be made inside this company. When it will happen, I'm not quite sure. We haven't started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it.'"

Basically, the film is in the earliest possible stages of production. There's still no script, no cast, no director — the film is being talked about, and it's clear that Lucasfilm and Disney want the movie to happen; it's just not going to hit theaters for quite a while.

Then again, Disney may already have a leading man in mind; rumors have been circulating that Jurassic World lead Chris Pratt is on top of a short list of potential candidates to star in the film, though whether or not he'd be playing Dr. Jones himself or another character is still up in the air. Harrison Ford has seemed eager to return to the role in the past, though whether or not the actor will have retired before then could definitely throw a wrench in those plans.

Right now, there's no way of telling what will happen if Indiana Jones will return — with any luck, it'll go over a bit more smoothly than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ...
