Facebook's COO Sheryl Sandberg who lost her husband Dave Goldberg last week paid an emotional tribute to him.

On Tuesday, May 5, a few hours after Goldberg's funeral, Sandberg posted an emotional eulogy dedicated to her late husband on Facebook, sharing that even though she was "heartbroken" she was "grateful for every minute we had."

Goldberg, the head honcho of SurveyMonkey, was working out on a treadmill when on vacation in Mexico, and suddenly slipped and collapsed. The 47-year-old passed away at a hospital due to blood loss and head trauma.

This is the first time Sandberg has publicly commented on the accidental death, calling Goldberg her "rock" as she mourned the loss of her "best friend."

Sandberg and Goldberg were married for 11 years and the couple has two children. An emotional Sandberg also revealed that the past few days had been the "darkest and saddest moments" of her life.

"As we put the love of my life to rest today, we buried only his body. His spirit, his soul, his amazing ability to give is still with it. It lives on in the stories people are sharing of how he touched their lives, in the love that is visible in the eyes of our family and friends, in the spirit and resilience of our children. Things will never be the same - but the world is better for the years my beloved husband lived," wrote Sandberg in the Facebook post.

Sandberg also included two pictures of the couple in the post of which one was taken on their wedding. She also updated her cover photograph to that of the couple dancing at their wedding in 2004.

President Barack Obama also expressed his condolences.

"David Goldberg embodied the definition of a real leader - someone who was always looking for ways to empower others. He was generous and kind with everybody, and cared less about the limelight than making sure that the people he worked with and loved succeeded in whatever they did. His skills as an entrepreneur created opportunity for many; his love for his family was a joy to behold, and his example as a husband and father was something we could all learn from. We're heartbroken by him leaving us far too soon - but we celebrate a remarkable legacy," noted the White House Facebook page post.

The post was signed "b.o." which means Obama wrote the tribute personally.

Sandberg thanked Obama for the tribute as did Mark Zuckerberg.
