With so many holidays and celebrations that humans have thought of, one of the best all-day celebrations we have concocted has got to be National Doughnut Day.

It's one of the best national celebration mankind has come up with simply because everybody loves donuts and what better way to start your Friday than to get a free donut in honor of this wonderful celebration.

For those of you who are curious, this historical holiday started in 1938 by the Salvation Army. It was a way to honor the men and women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I and to thank those who sent writing supplies, stamps, and home-cooked food to soldiers fighting the war. The holiday was also designed as a way to raise funds and public awareness for the social service program of the Salvation Army.

And without further ado, here's a list of places to score a free donut to celebrate National Doughnut Day:

There are at least two ways to get a warm, freshly glazed Krispy Kreme donut. One way is via social networking site Facebook. Another way to score a yummy treat is by stopping by your friendly Krispy Kreme store in the U.S. and Canada to get a free doughnut.
