Samsung will officially announce the Galaxy K at an event on April 29. The smartphone is a follow up to last year's camera-centric Galaxy S4 Zoom and new images of the device have leaked.

Samsung loves to cover its bases with the plethora of smartphones the company releases. If you want a smartphone with top of the line specs and features, the Galaxy S5 has got you covered. If you like the idea of converging a mini tablet and smartphone, there's no better choice than the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The company's Galaxy Mega 6.3 further blurs the line between smartphone and tablet with its spacious 6.3-inch display.

When Samsung announced a couple of Galaxy S4 variants last year, it introduced the Galaxy S4 Active, which was designed to be a tough and rugged device thanks to its waterproof and dustproof certifications. The Galaxy S4 Mini's purpose was to bring the design of the Galaxy S4 to a smaller handset with a 4.3-inch display. The Galaxy S4 Zoom focused on converging a smartphone and high-end camera but didn't see much success due to its thick and bulky design.

Samsung is expected to release similar Galaxy S5 variants in the near future but the company will not be using the Galaxy S5 Zoom name in its camera-centric smartphone. Samsung has announced an event for April 29 that will introduce the world to the Galaxy K.

New images of the Galaxy K have leaked giving a better look at the design. Samsung obviously learned consumers did not want to carry the bulky Galaxy S4 Zoom and it has slimmed down the Galaxy K and its appearance is much closer to that of a smartphone than its predecessor.

The Samsung Galaxy K will reportedly feature a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED 720p display and run Android 4.4.2 out of the box. The smartphone will be powered by a Samsung hexa-core Exynos processor that will use two 1.5GHz cores and four 1.3Ghz cores, a Mali-T624 GPU, and 2GB of RAM to keep things running smoothly. The star of the show will be its 20-megapixel camera that will include a 10x optical zoom and Xenon flash.

We'll be covering the Galaxy K event and will be sure to keep you posted.
