In 1978, the city of Metropolis, IL, held its first Superman Celebration after receiving the blessing of DC Comics as being the official city of Superman.

Since then, the celebration has grown larger every year and hosted people from all over the world, looking to share their love of Superman and all things comics with like-minded individuals. Celebrities flock to the festival, too, usually those involved with the world of Superman TV, films and comics.

This year's celebration was no different with comics fans taking to the streets of Metropolis, in spite of the excessive heat and humidity. This year's celebrity guests included Caity Lotz (Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow) and Candice Patton (The Flash), as well as John Shea (Lois & Clark), Stacey Haiduk (Superboy) and Diane Sherry Case (Superman). The featured comics guests were writer Kurt Busiek (Astro City, Marvels) and Mike Norton (Battle Pug, Revival).

However, cosplayers at the Celebration are their own kind of celebrity and this year saw some of the most dedicated who tackled extreme temperatures to display their skills, as well as their love, for their favorite comic book creations.

We were there, admiring all those amazing costumes. There were a lot of great cosplayers to choose from, but here are ten of our favorites.
