Samsung U.S. started a PR stunt in response to an Apple marketing ploy, but it seems that the Korean company's campaign has failed as involved fans, or endorsers, tweet from their iPhones.

During the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) at the start of the month, Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, narrated a story about Brandon Moss, a Cleveland Indians baseball player. Moss had hit his 100th home run and wanted to keep the ball as a memorabilia.

Cook revealed that Ross' teammates held the ball and asked Ross for a ransom that included a list of Apple products. Cook showed a ball at the conference and revealed that Apple will pay the ransom and return the sovereign to Ross. It remains a mystery if the story narrated by Cook is true or just a marketing tactic.

Whether true or not, Samsung also responded with its own marketing stunt, which involved other team members of the Cleveland Indians.

A Tweet from the Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer claimed that another souvenir ball was being held as a ransom. Francisco Lindor recently had his first home run and wanted to keep the ball as a souvenir, but his teammates asked for a ransom. This time, the demand was for Samsung products. Again, no one knows if this was real or fake.

Some people believe it was just a prank from Samsung lovers in the team. However, it could also be a PR stunt from Samsung. Interestingly, based on the list, Bauer demanded a Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 tablet but his tweet was from an iPhone. Also, the Indians' Danny Salazar demanded a Samsung laptop and a Gear Fit, while Corey Kluber said he needed a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone. Reports suggest that even Salazar and Kluber are iPhone users. Many people have taken to social media about the entire episode and some people think it really is a PR ploy.
