Apple would no doubt still prefer folks to upgrade to a new iPhone or iPad if you find yourself regularly running out of storage space, but it looks like it's at least doing more to accommodate them with iOS 9 than it did with iOS 8 (which notoriously required more than 4 GB of free space just to upgrade to).

In addition to making the iOS upgrades themselves significantly smaller, it looks like iOS 9 will also include a new feature that makes it easier to install those updates when you run up against your device's storage limit.

As MacRumors reports, developers using the latest iOS 9 beta have noticed that the OS includes an option for automatic app deletion. When it's enabled, apps will be deleted to free up enough space to download the update and then automatically re-installed after the update is completed.

It's not exactly the biggest of iOS 9's features, to be sure, but certainly a welcome one for owners of 16 GB devices — many of whom, as MacRumors notes, contributed to a slower adoption rate for iOS 8 given its demanding space requirements.
