Samsung is expected to release several Tizen-powered smartphones this year, and an exclusive new report now "confirms" the Samsung Z3 is next in line.

For some context, Tizen is Samsung's own operating system, as the device maker reportedly seeks to loosen its reliance on Google's Android OS. The Samsung Z1 launched as the first smartphone to run Tizen since, until then, Samsung's OS only powered a couple of its smartwatches.

The Tizen-based Samsung Z1 was not a groundbreaking hit, but it did enjoy some success in the markets it reached. Samsung is now looking to build on that success with more Tizen smartphones, and the first one to launch in 2015 with Tizen on board will reportedly be the Samsung Z3.

Previous rumors already claimed that the Samsung Z3 will be the next Tizen smartphone from Samsung, but a new report from SamMobile now adds more details on the matter.

The publication claims to have received confirmation from sources that Samsung's next Tizen handset will indeed be the Z3, which apparently carries model number SM-Z300H_SWA_DD. Consequently, the OEM seemingly decided to go from the Samsung Z1 straight to Samsung Z3, skipping the Z2 for some reason.

No information is currently available when it comes to hardware specifications, but the Samsung Z3 is expected to launch as a budget-friendly device, which suggests mid-range specs at best.

As a reminder, the Samsung Z1 came with modest specs on board, featuring a dual-core Spreadtrum processor, only 512MB of RAM and a meager 3.2-megapixel main camera. Nevertheless, the Tizen OS allowed it to deliver a speedier performance compared to other Samsung handsets in the same category running Android.

The next-generation Samsung Z3 is further rumored to rock an upgraded Tizen 3.0 straight out of the box, boasting some neat new features and focusing on the Internet of Things.

Lastly, SamMobile speculates that Samsung may take the wraps off its new Tizen-based Z3 at its upcoming developer conference in India, but nothing is confirmed at this point. It all remains in the rumor state until Samsung makes a formal announcement in this regard, so a healthy dose of skepticism is advised.
