Daily fantasy sports cash leagues are becoming increasingly popular and Yahoo Sports wants in.

Yahoo announced the launch of its Yahoo Sports Daily Fantasy league on Wednesday, July 8, giving fantasy owners a daily shot at winning money.

With an already-built-in seasonal fantasy sports fan base, Yahoo sees a daily fantasy league as a chance to access untapped potential. Kenneth Fuchs, Yahoo's vice president of products, revealed that Yahoo Sports has a reach of 98 million sports fans — who spend 30 billion minutes a year playing season-long fantasy sports on its website, according to Venturebeat.com. He added that daily fantasy has grown 51 times over the past three years, from $5 million to $257 million.

Called Yahoo Sports Daily Fantasy, the new league allows sports fans to participate by using the Yahoo Fantasy app on their iPhone or on any device through the browser. Since contests run daily, fantasy sports fans don't have to deal with drafting. Just log into the app and play. Simple as that. There are 50/50 or guaranteed contests offered through Yahoo's system, with the company assuring that payments will be handled via PayPal within a 48-hour period.

Yahoo's daily fantasy platform also allows users to create their own contests, with the option only covering Major League Baseball at present.

Yahoo's entrance into the daily fantasy sports space, instantly turns it into a competitor for powerhouses such as DraftKings and FanDuel.
