Ever heard of a squirrel eating a snake? Probably not, but it is real. The phenomenon was captured at Guadalupe Mountains National Park in west Texas.

From what we've come to understand, a national park ranger caught a rock squirrel fighting a snake and eating it after it managed to get the better of it. Squirrels are usually known for eating nuts and insects, but sometimes they will eat bird eggs, lizards, and rarely, snakes.

According to an update on Facebook by the U.S. Department of the Interior, the squirrel devoured everything except for the last two inches of the snake.

"Ranger Leggett heard a racket outside the Frijole Ranch and then recorded the entire epic battle. The squirrel devoured most of the snake, bones and all, down to the last two inches," the Facebook post said.

Only a single photo has been released of the squirrel munching on the snake. We hope the video is released eventually because it would allow folks to better understand the nature of squirrels.

Then again, maybe the video is too disturbing for some folks, especially those on Facebook.

The only animal similar to squirrels that we know is capable of killing a snake is the mongoose. This creature is gifted with taking down poisonous snakes, and can even survive a snake bite from some species. They won't ever take on a viper due to its speed, but everything else is fair game.

Honey badgers are also capable snake hunters, and can take multiple snake bites during a hunt. If they take too many venomous bites to the body, these creatures will drop into a coma-like state for hours before, surprisingly, rising up again to eat what is left of the snake.
