The Samsung Galaxy S4 on U.S. Cellular is finally in for a neat treat, as the handset is now getting Android 5.0 Lollipop.

It's been quite a while since Android 5.0 Lollipop started hitting various devices, but some carrier versions of the Samsung Galaxy S4 were left waiting for the update. The U.S. Cellular version of the smartphone was one of them, but the update is finally ready to roll out.

As U.S. Cellular itself points out, Android 5.0 Lollipop is now rolling out to the Samsung Galaxy S4 either over-the-air (OTA) or via Samsung Kies, bringing the base band version to R970TYUGOE2. Here's how to get the update:

OTA

To get the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop update for your Samsung Galaxy S4 OTA, first of all make sure that your device is registered to a Google account and is connected to a reliable Wi-Fi network. From there on, go into the handset's Settings and select About Device > Software Update > OK and follow the on-screen instructions. The update will download and install on your smartphone. Keep in mind, however, that it may take a while for the OTA to reach all devices, as updates always roll out gradually, in phases.

Samsung Kies

If you prefer to get the update via Samsung Kies, you'll need a USB cable and, of course, you need to have Samsung Kies installed on your computer. If you don't have Samsung Keys yet, you can download the software from Samsung's website. Once you have Samsung Keys installed, connect your smartphone to your computer via the USB cable. If a new version of firmware is ready for your device, a notice will appear on the Basic information tab when you open Samsung Kies. If you see that notice, just select Firmware upgrade to get things started. Follow the on-screen instructions, backup your data and proceed with the upgrade.

Android 5.0 Lollipop will bring a slew of changes and new features to the table, aiming to improve the software experience. The Samsung Galaxy S4 may be an older smartphone, but it's still a very capable device and the latest update will further enhance its performance.
